We all want to live in a clean and safe indoor environment. However, there is a distinct difference between cleaning and disinfecting. It is true that cleaning helps to cleanse and remove dirt from the surface area , but does cleaning alone guarantee that all phatho germs and bacteria are killed? If you want to clean and disinfect a surface, you need to begin by cleaning it—removing the dirt, using an all-purpose cleaner—and then apply disinfectant afterward to get rid of the bacteria.  This is referred to as the “two-step” cleaning process.

Cleaning

A traditional all-purpose cleaner is designed to lift dirt off a surface. Cleaning works by using soap (or detergent) and water to physically remove germs from surfaces. This process does not necessarily kill germs. It only reduces their numbers by removing them from the surfaces you’re cleaning.

Disinfecting

A disinfectant, on the other hand, is designed to kill bacteria, germs, etc. due to the special ingredients it contains. It is not designed to lift dirt off a surface or make it shiny like an all-purpose cleaner would. Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces or objects. This process kills high percentages of germs on a surface or rendering them incapable of reproducing. Disinfecting after cleaning is the most important step to take to further lower or eliminate the risk of spreading infection or contamination.

So how do we ensure the area is germ-free?

First, clean the surface with an all purpose cleaner or a natural all purpose cleaner. This step gets rid of any visible food or waste particles and removes germs that may have been lurking on the surface. Then, rinse the surface with regular tap water, dry, and then apply the disinfectant, per the directions on the bottle.

After which kill the germs and sanitise the area with the disinfectant on surfaces that come into constant contact with your hands or food.( e.g Computer keyboards, tables, kitchen, desk, doorknob etc.)

Remember to first clean, then disinfect.
